First Thursday Club voted to hold their meetings regularly at Freeland Hall. During the Second World War, Red Cross work with Mrs. Sophia Rosk as chairman, was a major contribution to the war effort. Ways and means committees were busy with a Harvest Home dinner, auction sales and dances. A bazaar and dinner also a smorgasbord were a financial success. A traveling basket of food and a baked food sale at the County Fair and prizes for floats at the Fair Parade, added to the treasury. The Club gave money and did sewing for the American Legion Auxiliary for gifts for the hospitalized veterans, for them to give to their families and friends at Christmas time. In 1947, with Mrs. Marquerite Robinson as President, the Daffodils Tea was instituted. It has become a popular annual occasion. Each Christmas a program with the children of the community participating, is sponsored by the members of the club. Treats of candy, nuts, oranges, popcorn, popcake and coffee are served. A gaily decorated tree and decorations add to the occasion. Rugs, folding chairs, card tables, coffee urns and many kitchen articles have been purchased. Luncheon and evening card parties have been popular. The Community Activity Club, which has been organized in recent years, in conjunction with the First Thursday Club, installed plumbing in the Kitchen and rest rooms. The Kitchen has been remodeled and painted. The club continues to donate too many worthy projects. There are fifty active members and nine honorary members at the present time.
